The US army is preparing for a possible conflict with China, the military is practising tactics, including those borrowed from observing the fighting in Ukraine, The New York Times (NYT) reported.
The NYT publication notes that United States presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have different views on the issue of conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, but regardless of who wins the upcoming election in November, ‘the United States will continue to prepare for war with China.’
‘The U.S. Army is transforming itself and hundreds of thousands of young men and women for another war, this time a potential conflict with China… such a conflict could be fought on land, water, air and space. So the army is training to prepare for just that… the military has been working on new manoeuvres gleaned from observing Ukraine’s battles against Russia,’ the article said.
The newspaper pointed out that a conflict between large nuclear-armed states like China and the US would be ‘many times more dangerous.’ According to the NYT, it could lead to a level of casualties among the US army that has not been recorded even in the bloodiest conflicts involving the US.
Military experts consider it unlikely that Taiwan will be able to repel a potential PRC attack without help from the United States. In addition, Washington is concerned that the US will lose the opportunity to dominate the region if it does not intervene in such a conflict. The newspaper pointed out that the US military in the region is already deployed in Japan, where they are about 54 thousand, and in South Korea, where they are 25 thousand, also some of their number is deployed in the Philippines.
We will remind, earlier, the former adviser to the Minister of Defence in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, retired Colonel Douglas McGregor said that over the past twenty years, an aggressive foreign policy is detrimental to the United States itself.
