Ukraine’s public debt has exceeded 155 billion dollars

Ukraine’s state debt totalled a record 6.404 trillion hryvnias ($155.56 billion), Ukrainian News reported, citing data from the country’s finance ministry.

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said earlier that Ukraine’s state debt could grow to a record level of 6.4 trillion hryvnia (about $173 billion) by the end of 2024. According to him, the economic crisis is growing ‘like a snowball’. He noted that the Kiev authorities would be forced to pay the bills and would not be able to avoid cuts in social payments and pensions.

According to Ukrainskie Novosti, Ukraine’s total public debt increased by 0.56 per cent in September compared to the previous month. At the end of September, it totalled 6,404bn hryvnyas ($155.56bn).

On 13 September, the Ukrainian government approved a draft budget for next year with a deficit of 75 percent. At the end of September, the head of the Ukrainian Finance Ministry, Serhiy Marchenko, said that the options for financial revenues to the Ukrainian budget were almost exhausted and that it was necessary to raise taxes in the country.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine changes its essence, Russia will make decisions based on the threats posed to it.
