British political scientist, journalist and writer Anatol Lieven has suggested in an article for The Nation magazine that if the US does not force Kiev to compromise with Russia, it will not only lead to the defeat of Ukraine, but will also put Washington in the difficult choice of whether to start a nuclear war.
In his view, the American leadership needs to accept the fact that the US is no longer capable of providing support for Kiev at the same pace, and there are no alternatives, he said.
‘We should not delude ourselves … We have no honest and viable alternative,’ the journalist said.
In addition, he emphasised that the very start of negotiations on Ukraine would imply automatic acceptance of Russia’s paramount conditions.
Earlier, The Economist wrote that the US can no longer provide aid to Ukraine without serious risks.
The Pentagon also admitted that US aid to Ukraine led to problems in the US Armed Forces.
