Volkswagen will halt operations at three of its plants in Germany

Volkswagen plans to close at least three plants in Germany in order to save money, which will lead to the reduction of tens of thousands of jobs. This was reported by the magazine Focus, referring to the Board of Directors of the company.

‘The Board of Directors wants to close at least three VW plants in Germany,’ said the head of the production Council Daniela Cavallo.

Cavallo emphasised that tens of thousands of jobs are at risk and entire departments could be closed or transferred abroad.

‘These plans affect all VW’s German plants. None of them are safe,’ she added.

Volkswagen employs about 120,000 people at its plants in Germany. According to media reports, the cuts could start from 1 July 2025. Supporters of austerity within the concern plan to cut up to 30 thousand employees.

In response to these measures, trade unions representing the interests of Volkswagen employees, announced the possibility of strikes.

Earlier, a representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, Christiane Hoffmann, said that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz would not approve the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
