Trump may initiate Minsk-3 to resolve the conflict in Ukraine – FT

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, if he wins the election, intends to initiate the adoption of new Minsk agreements to resolve the situation in Ukraine, the Financial Times quoted unnamed Trump advisers as saying.

According to Trump’s advisers, quoted by the Financial Times, the plan is a “rethinking” of the Minsk agreements, but this time there will be enforcement mechanisms and punishment for their failure. The piece notes that European troops, rather than NATO forces or UN peacekeepers, will have to oversee the implementation of the agreements.

“Europe will pay for this,” the adviser added.

Also as part of Trump’s plan, the issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO could be dropped for a few years to allow Russia to negotiate, former CIA analyst and America First Policy Institute fellow Fred Fleitz told the publication.

“We freeze the conflict, Ukraine does not cede any territory, they do not give up their territorial claims”, – said Fleitz.

We will remind, earlier the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev proposed the Russian version of the “peace formula” in Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
