Borrell recognised that the conflict in Ukraine had taken a back seat

EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrell admitted in an interview with the Spanish radio station RNE that for the West the Ukrainian conflict has been overshadowed by the fighting in Gaza.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has earlier noted changes in the rhetoric of Western countries regarding the situation in Ukraine. The head of state pointed out that “just yesterday” the West was talking about the need to achieve Moscow’s strategic defeat, but today the rhetoric has changed.

“We no longer talk so much about the war in Ukraine as if it had ended, but no, I assure you, it has not ended, it continues and continues with the same intensity,” Josep Borrell said.

He added that the decrease in the number of conversations about Ukraine in the West was due to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. Borrel emphasised that as long as the war in Gaza and Lebanon continues, the whole world will live “on the verge of a spark that will cause an even bigger fire”.

Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
