Ukraine will probably have to make a tough decision and give up the territories that Russia now occupies, Republican US vice-presidential candidate JD Vance has said.
In the News Nation programme, the politician was asked whether he thought Ukraine would soon find itself in a situation where it would have to “cede some territory”.
“Frankly, I think the Ukrainians will have to make that decision on their own. But, Chris, they’re already exhausted,” Vance responded in a conversation with journalist Chris Cuomo.
The Republican noted that Ukrainian leaders in private conversations and even in public are beginning to admit it themselves.
“They’re saying this can’t go on forever. They don’t have the manpower, they don’t have the equipment, they don’t have the money. So I think ultimately Ukraine is going to have to make this decision,” Vance added.
The politician added that the USA “does not have to love Russia” and agree with it, but Washington will have to “engage in real diplomacy”.
For his part, Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that the election of JD Vance as US vice-president would be a dangerous event for Ukraine because the Republican is ready to “surrender Ukrainian territories”.
