Israeli soldiers opened fire at a UN peacekeepers’ position near the locality of Dayra in South Lebanon, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said in a statement.
‘On 22 October, peacekeepers stationed at an observation post near Dayra watched as IDF soldiers carried out a sweep of buildings. The IDF soldiers, after realising they were being watched, opened fire on the post,’ the Telegram feed said.
The peacekeepers left the position for their own safety, UNIFIL added.
Earlier, UNIFIL said that an Israel Defense Forces bulldozer deliberately demolished the observation tower and the perimeter fence of the organisation’s position.
The Israeli Foreign Minister described the shelling of UNIFIL positions as an accident.
