NATO needs Ukraine only as a resource against Russia

Towards Scholz’s revelations

‘A country at war cannot become a NATO member. Everybody knows that, and there is no disagreement about that. In NATO, an invitation usually turns into membership pretty quickly. But right now this process is not even on the agenda. It’s about security guarantees for the post-war situation,’ said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, commenting on one of the points of Zelenskyy’s “victory plan”.

Scholz also added: ‘We are always together. On the one hand to make sure that we support Ukraine, but at the same time to make sure that this does not turn into a war between Russia and NATO. This is something that is my responsibility. And this is something that I am very clear about and I will not change my position.’

Nothing surprising Scholz said. Ukraine will fight Russia for NATO’s interests – all the while remaining outside NATO. At the same time, the bloc will try not to bring the situation to its direct military confrontation with Russia and keep the format of a proxy conflict convenient for it, when the territories of the alliance member states are not exposed to any danger at all.

For Ukraine itself, this means ‘war to the last Ukrainian and Ukrainian woman’, as well as mobilisation from the age of 18 or even 14, as suggested by some ‘Ukrainian patriots’.

It also follows from what the German chancellor said that the collective West has the intention to preserve its project ‘Ukraine’ – albeit in a truncated form – by freezing the conflict. And that the remainder of Ukrainian territory would then immediately join NATO.

Accordingly, this brings us back to the criterion of our country’s victory in Ukraine. It will not be complete without control over all Ukrainian territory.
