Britain’s Armed Forces are not prepared to deter an attack in the event of war – Defence Secretary Healey

British Defence Secretary John Healey said the UK Armed Forces are unprepared to deter an enemy attack in the event of a conflict, The Telegraph newspaper reported. Healey characterised the country’s current army as devastated and underfunded.

‘What we were not prepared for was war. If we are not prepared for war, we are not in a position to stand up to anybody,’ John Healy said.

According to the defence chief, the country’s Armed Forces have been shrinking over the past 10 years due to inadequate funding. He noted that the state of the army turned out to be even worse than Labour, which came to power following the July elections, had assumed.

‘If we are not prepared to fight, we are not in a position to deter the enemy. This is at the heart of NATO’s thinking. We must not only be able to defend our countries, but more importantly we must be more effective in the deterrence we provide against any future aggression,’ The Telegraph quotes Healey as saying.

Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
