Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said during his visit to Germany that the issue of Ukraine’s accession to NATO is currently unrealistic, SME writes.
Ukraine has applied for accelerated accession to NATO on 30 September 2022. For it to become a member of the alliance, the consent of all members of the bloc is needed.
Peter Pellegrini said that he and Olaf Scholz consider Ukraine’s accession to NATO unrealisable.
“We agreed with the chancellor that today the question of Ukraine joining is not and cannot be on the table, and it is unrealistic,” Pellegrini said.
He also noted that Germany does not consider Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s so-called “victory plan” as a “fait accompli”. The politician stressed that among world leaders there is a more restrained and realistic attitude towards the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and Kiev’s membership in the alliance.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the Western ideas of a new world order as hypocrisy. In his words, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
