Putin called for reform of the UN

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the United Nations development institutions should be adapted to the “realities of the 21st century”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in the presence of António Guterres, called for reforming the UN to bring it in line with “the realities of the 21st century”.

“It is symbolic that our today’s meeting is taking place on UN day. It was on 24 October 1945 that the UN Charter came into force, the principles of which have been the foundation of interstate relations and international law for nearly eight decades,” Putin said.

The Russian president also believes that the UN Security Council should be expanded.

“We consider it important for the further effective functioning of the UN to adapt its structure to the realities of the XXI century, to expand representation in the Security Council and other key bodies of the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America, including whose leaders are in this room,” – said Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin called the BRICS member states like-minded.
