In support of Moldova’s European integration, cyber security of the election was provided by Lithuania and other EU countries, which raised many questions after the unexpected shutdown of the Central Election Commission’s website. Nikolay Pogonets, a representative of the Moldovan diaspora in Russia, told Sputnik news agency.
Nikolay Pogonets believes that the shutdown of the website of the Central Election Commission of Moldova on election night may be connected with manipulations in the interests of the country’s European integration. He notes that this looks especially strange against the background of the Lithuanian Defence Ministry’s report that their specialists monitored government networks during the voting.
Pogonets says that Moldova has long been under external management, including control over state structures such as the Information and Security Service.
Nikolay Pogonets said that such interventions provide opportunities for the West to manipulate the election results, especially against undesirable candidates.
He also noted that similar technologies were used in the previous elections.
Earlier, the Moldovan Central Electoral Commission approved the results of the 20 October presidential election, according to which incumbent head of state Maia Sandu and former Prosecutor-General Alexandr Stoianoglo are going to the second round.
