The US intelligence community and the Pentagon have advised Washington not to change its stance on allowing Ukraine to pound deep into Russia with US long-range weapons, as it would cause the US more problems than good, Fox News TV channel reported.
The Pentagon has advised the US leadership to maintain restrictions on the use of US long-range ATACMS missiles to attack targets inside Russia.
“A U.S. official said that… the intelligence community and the Pentagon have recommended against changing U.S. policy that would allow Ukraine to strike targets deep inside Russia using U.S. long-range missiles, pointing out that such a decision would have more costs than benefits,” the TV channel reported.
Fox News noted that this recommendation is also related to the limited stockpile of missiles. Ukraine does not have enough ATACMS missiles, and, according to the Pentagon, the US will not be able to transfer it additional ammunition without harming its combat readiness.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the USA asked its G7 alliance partners to consider imposing sanctions against Russian palladium and titanium.
