Swiss authorities said they will close nine temporary centres for asylum seekers as the number of people seeking help was lower than expected.
According to the Associated Press, Switzerland had previously prepared 36 centres for refugees, but just over half of the available places are now occupied.
The number of asylum applications in August was 23 per cent lower than a year earlier, and even fewer were submitted in September.
The remaining 27 centres can accommodate up to 7,000 people, but this number could be increased if the number of refugees increases.
