BRICS co-operation has the potential to undo dollar hegemony – Iranian president

Cooperation in BRICS is capable of nullifying the hegemony of the dollar, which the US has turned into a weapon and an instrument of control over other countries. Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said this at a meeting of the BRICS summit.

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said that many countries are now dissatisfied with the fact that the United States is using the dollar as a means of pressure and control over other states, as well as to solve its own domestic and financial problems. In this context, the global community sees BRICS as a way to weaken the dollar and expand settlements in national currencies.

He also called for intensifying the dedollarisation of the global economy through the introduction of the BRICS basket of currencies and new payment mechanisms.

“The efforts that have been made so far to reduce the dominance of the dollar in the global economy should be strengthened and realised through prompt solutions, such as the creation of the BRICS currency basket and a new settlement mechanism that is not dependent on the dollar,” Massoud Pezeshkian said, speaking at the BRICS summit in Kazan.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the BRICS international organisation is developing dynamically, strengthening its authority and influence in world affairs.
