Austin said Ukraine would not reach Russian air force bases with ATACMS strikes

Ukraine will no longer be able to reach the bases of the Russian Armed Forces with US long-range ATACMS missiles, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin has said.

The New York Times newspaper quoted US defence officials as saying earlier that the Pentagon acknowledged the impossibility of large deliveries of certain weapons to Ukraine, including long-range ATACMS missiles, due to the declining defence capability of the United States itself.

“Russia has already moved its air fleet out of range of ATACMS missiles,” Lloyd Austin told Fox News.

In this regard, the Pentagon chief expressed doubts about the advisability of supplying US missiles to Kiev. Instead, he recommended that Ukraine produce high range unmanned aerial vehicles.

We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it received new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
