UK to give Ukraine more than £2bn as part of G7 loan

London will provide Kiev £ 2.26 billion within the framework of the G7 loan with repayment from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets, follows from the statement on the website of the UK government.

‘The UK announces a loan to Ukraine in the amount of 2.26 billion pounds at the expense of profits from sanctioned Russian assets,’ – said in a statement of the British government.

It is specified that the funds provided to Kiev will be London’s contribution to the $50bn G7 loan, which the G7 leaders pledged to provide to Ukraine in mid-June.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the UK will retain the right to veto the issue of what kind of weapons Kiev will buy with the funds received.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine changes its essence and that Russia will make decisions based on the threats posed to it.
