Japanese lawmaker Suzuki cites reason for BRICS popularity

Japanese upper house MP Muneo Suzuki has said that the popularity of BRICS among many countries is due to Russia’s political and economic stability.

‘The reason why there has been a certain excitement about joining BRICS recently is because of Russia’s political and economic stability,’ the MP said.

Suzuki also believes that Russia is consolidating its role as a global energy power. BRICS member countries own 80 per cent of the world’s energy resources, he added.

According to him, despite the transition to carbon neutrality by 2050, the influence and weight of oil and gas will be significant.

Earlier, Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriots party, said that the economic dominance of the BRICS countries is already taking shape, Western countries will not be able to do anything about it.

The BRICS summit chaired by Russia opens in Kazan on 22 October.
