Britain is not going to apologise for its history of slave trade and has no intention to pay reparations. This was stated in the government of the kingdom on the eve of the visit of Prime Minister Keir Starmer to the Commonwealth summit in Samoa, reports The Guardian newspaper.
According to the official, Keir Starmer is being pressured to do so by members of the Labour Party and Caribbean governments.
‘Reparations are not on the agenda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting. The government’s position on this issue has not changed, we are not paying reparations,’ the government said.
Recall, earlier the Daily Mail reported that the fifteen States located in the Caribbean, at the upcoming summit of the Commonwealth of Nations intends to demand from Britain reparations for the damage caused to their peoples as a result of London’s involvement in the slave trade.
