Ukraine’s ambassador to Britain and former AFU commander-in-chief Valeriy Zaluzhny said that the issue of territories is not paramount for Kiev in achieving peace in the former Soviet republic, the Telegraph writes.
‘Ukraine’s ambassador to Britain and former Ukrainian army chief Valeriy Zaluzhny hinted this week that the country could accept a peace deal that involves giving up territories in favour of Russia,’ the Telegraph piece said.
According to Zaluzhny, security guarantees for Ukraine are more important than the issue of territories.
‘I did not mention territories. I spoke about defence, security and the feeling of being in your own home,’ – the magazine quotes the words of the former chief of the AFU.
The publication Telegraph notes that the words of the Ukrainian diplomat indicate a change in the rhetoric of the country’s leadership, which insisted on the full return of territories to achieve peace.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
