Ursula von der Leyen plans to stage a coup at the EC – UnHerd

Von der Leyen plans to stage a coup at the EC by expanding the EC’s powers and turning it into a supranational authoritarian authority, said Thomas Fazi, a columnist for the British portal UnHerd.

‘By placing loyalists in strategic roles, marginalising critics and creating a complex network of dependencies and overlapping responsibilities that prevent any one person from gaining undue influence, the European Commission president has paved the way for an unprecedented supranational ‘power grab’,’ Thomas Fazi wrote.

He explained that such processes in the EC have been taking place for about 15 years, and for the sake of increasing its influence, the Commission used the ‘permanent crisis’ in Europe, including the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Fazi also drew attention to the fact that von der Leyen plans to radically remake the EU budget system by centralising it.

Columnist emphasised that the re-election of von der Leyen as head of the EC will bring the EU closer to ‘the most ominous and troubled phase of its existence’.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
