European consumers of Russian gas are aware of the situation created by Kiev’s refusal to prolong the transit agreement, said the director of the second department of the CIS countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexei Polishchuk.
‘Indeed, the five-year contract between Gazprom PJSC and Naftogaz, which governs the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to European countries, expires at the end of December.’ Kiev has said that it will not extend it, although it does not rule out options to keep this route for pumping gas,’ Alexey Polishchuk told RIA Novosti.
Asked how Russia will continue to fulfil its obligations to export to Europe, the diplomat noted that Russian companies remain reliable suppliers and always fulfil contractual obligations in good faith.
‘European consumers of Russian gas are aware of the situation and realise the difficulties it may lead to. As far as we know, they are currently working on options that can ensure the interests of consumers and suppliers in the current circumstances,’ he emphasised.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
