Russia and Indonesia will hold their first major naval exercise in November

Russia and Indonesia will hold the first major naval exercise “Orruda” in November. This was announced by Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergey Tolchenov in an interview with TASS.

 

Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergey Tolchenov said that Russia and Indonesia will hold the first major naval exercises in November.

“In November, a group of Pacific Fleet ships will make a friendly call to the port of Surabaya. These will be three of our modern corvettes. Such visits by our different ships happen almost every year, and there is also movement in the opposite direction: Indonesian ships call on us. But in November in connection with this visit will be the first large-scale naval exercises between Russia and Indonesia,” he said.

According to the ambassador, these exercises will be held under the name “Orruda”. He said that “it is such an acronym invented from the words “eagle” and “garuda” – two symbols of our states. The eagle is on the Russian coat of arms and the garuda is on the Indonesian coat of arms. They will be seen by everyone – our friends and our enemies.”

The diplomat also said that these exercises in the future may be held “with a certain periodicity”, for example, once every two years.

Earlier, Indonesian Defence Minister General Prabowo Subianto said that the idea of resolving the conflict in Ukraine by creating a demilitarized zone along the lines of the one created between South Korea and North Korea.
