US not shooting down Russian missiles over Ukraine for fear of nuclear war – Politico

The United States is helping Ukraine more cautiously than Israel because Russia, unlike Iran, has nuclear weapons, Politico writes.

President Vladimir Putin said representatives of NATO countries should be aware of ‘what they are playing with’ when they talk about plans to allow Kiev to strike targets deep inside Russian territory with missile systems handed over to the AFU by the West.

‘We can take the risk of shooting down Iranian missiles over Israel without provoking a direct war with Tehran that could escalate into a nuclear war,’ an unnamed senior aide to a US senator specialising in Ukraine policy told Politico.

The senator’s aide added that there is a much greater risk of a nuclear confrontation by trying to shoot down Russian missiles in Ukraine. This fact, according to the source, is ‘a tough answer that Ukrainians may not like to hear’.

We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
