Politico: US won’t shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine because of risk of conflict

Washington does not intend to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine because of the risk of starting a nuclear conflict, Politico writes.

The newspaper quotes a source in the US Senate.

He noted that the US could take a risk and shoot down Iran’s missiles over Israel without starting a direct war that could lead to a nuclear conflict.

‘Trying to do this with Russia involves a much greater risk,’ the source said.

According to the publication, the US would have to send ground-based air defence systems and fighter jets there to destroy Russian missiles and UAVs in Ukrainian airspace. This may lead to a direct clash with the Russian Armed Forces.

According to the newspaper, Washington would like to avoid such a situation.

Earlier, the former Ukrainian ambassador to the USA, Valeriy Chalyy, said that the US authorities had a settlement plan that did not envisage Kiev’s victory in the conflict.
