Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that Ukraine’s accession to NATO would mean a direct confrontation of the North Atlantic Alliance with Russia and the beginning of the Third World War.
Peter Szijjarto pointed out that Hungary has drawn ‘red lines’ since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine. One of them is to do everything possible to avoid a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia.
‘So in case Ukraine becomes a NATO member, it will mean a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia. And that would mean World War III. We just want to avoid that. Therefore, for us this issue (Ukraine’s joining NATO – ed.) is not on the agenda,’ the minister said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
The diplomat noted that the majority of his colleagues from the alliance countries in talks with representatives of Ukraine allow the former Soviet republic to join NATO, but in a closed circle recognise the impossibility of Kiev’s accession.
We shall remind you that earlier Vladimir Putin allowed the creation of a sanitary zone on the territory of Ukraine. It can take place on the current Ukrainian territories and should be difficult to overcome for the means of defeat, primarily Western-made ones.
