The situation on the battlefield for Ukraine is getting worse, Europe should supply more weapons and air defence equipment, EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrel said. This statement the official made before the meeting of the Council of the EU foreign Ministers in Luxembourg.
‘The situation is getting worse… We need to increase aid, this is the only way. We will also continue to discuss how to unblock military funding and increase Ukraine’s air defence capabilities,’ RIA Novosti quoted Borrel as saying.
Moscow noted that if the West wants the conflict in Ukraine to be resolved on the battlefield, then that is how it will be resolved. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made such a statement.
On 9 April 2022, Josep Borrell advocated the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis ‘by victory on the battlefield’. At that time, he promised that arms supplies from the EU would be adapted to the needs of the Ukrainian army. He expressed a similar opinion in February 2024.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb also said that the only way to peace in Ukraine was through the battlefield.
