US priority remains arms deliveries to Ukraine, not diplomacy – Pentagon

The US priority in the conflict in Ukraine remains supplying weapons to Kiev, as Washington does not yet see any possibility of a diplomatic settlement of the conflict, the Pentagon has said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier noted that any cargoes that contain weapons for Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. According to him, the US and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel on the territory of the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries.

“We believe that any diplomatic solution must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and we support Ukraine’s right to determine the terms of any peaceful settlement. Until then, our priority remains to provide Ukraine with the necessary support for self-defence,” a US defence official told RIA Novosti.

The Pentagon added that the United States does not yet see “conditions for fruitful negotiations” with Russia, so their priority remains to provide Ukraine with the necessary military assistance.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. In his words, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
