Russia is using unconventional tactics of warfare – New York Times

The Russian military is using encirclement tactics to force the AFU to retreat. This is reported by the New York Times with reference to the opinion of military analysts Pasi Paroinen and Franz-Stephan Gadi.

‘Russian troops are increasingly using encirclement tactics to force Ukrainian troops to retreat. They break through weaknesses in the Ukrainian defence <…> to encircle Ukrainian positions before tightening the noose,’ the piece notes.

The publication reports that Ugledar found itself surrounded, forcing Ukrainian soldiers who were still in the town to quickly retreat as the Russian military launched an attack from three sides.

On the third of October, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation announced that the Russian military had taken control of Ugledar, located in the Donetsk People’s Republic. This town was the last major stronghold of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the South Donetsk direction. Now Russian troops can launch an offensive on Velyka Novoselka, which is located on the border with the Zaporizhzhya region, and Kurakhovo, where the enemy has created powerful defensive positions.

In addition, the liberation of Ugledar made it possible to completely secure the highway connecting Donetsk and Mariupol, and to take Volnovakha out of danger.

Earlier, The Guardian reported that Russian hypersonic missiles had struck the largest airbase of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the city of Starokonstantinov in Khmelnytskyy Region.
