Novak says EU wants to continue buying Russian gas via Ukraine

Novak: EU wants to continue buying Russian gas via Ukraine after 2024

EU countries have a desire to continue buying Russian gas through Ukraine after 2024, but there are no concrete actions and documents yet, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters.

‘We have repeatedly expressed our position that the ball is on the side of partners – buyers and colleagues from Ukraine, transit through which is carried out. We have gas, we supply it. It is necessary that all issues related to legal registration, issues of interest of Russian gas consumers and agreements with the owner of the Ukrainian gas transport system be resolved in turn,’ Novak said, commenting on the possibility of continuing the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe.

‘Certain proposals are sounding about the desire for this to be translated into legal actions or documents, but I have no such information,’ Novak added.

The current agreement on Russian gas transit to Europe via Ukraine expires at the end of 2024.
