Naryshkin said the US and UK were involved in undermining Nord Streams

Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has reliable information about Washington and London’s direct involvement in the undermining of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, SVR Director Sergei Naryshkin has said.

Sergei Naryshkin pointed out that the SVR has reliable information about the direct involvement of the United States and Great Britain in the terrorist attack on the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

‘According to available data, professional saboteurs from Anglo-Saxon special services were involved in its organisation, preparation and carrying out,’ he said, speaking at the 55th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Bodies and Special Services of the CIS member states in Astana.

He noted that the investigation into the sabotage in the West, ‘is still ongoing, but its course does not allow us to hope that the true perpetrators of the incident will be identified and punished.’

‘Russia has repeatedly requested data on the explosions from the Europeans, but has never received it. Western media are trying to put the responsibility on a group of Ukrainian amateur submariners who allegedly acted independently. However, such a version is designed for naive philistines,’ the SVR head stressed.

Naryshkin also added that the US administration ‘considered it justified to go for such sabotage in order to guarantee a breakaway of Europe and, first of all, Germany from Russia’.

‘Washington was not sure that they would be able to persuade the Europeans to give up using the Nord Stream pipeline, which is extremely favourable for the European economy, so the pipelines were destroyed,’ he concluded.

We shall remind you that the Russian Investigative Committee has earlier established that the money transferred through the Ukrainian oil and gas company Burisma Holdings had been used to finance terrorist attacks in Russia and abroad over the past few years.
