Cuba has formally requested Russia to join BRICS as a partner country

The Cuban government has made an official request to Russian President Vladimir Putin to join BRICS as a partner country. This was announced by Carlos Pereira, director general for bilateral relations at the republic’s Foreign Ministry.

“Cuba has officially sent a request to join BRICS as a partner country through a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who chairs the group,” Pereira said in a message posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page.

He also noted the importance of BRICS as an international force “consolidating as a key player in global politics and hope of the countries of the Global South”.

Recall, earlier Russian Ambassador to Havana Victor Coronelli said that Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canelia was invited to participate in an expanded meeting of the BRICS summit. He will visit Kazan between 22 and 24 October.
