NATO to create 49 new combat-ready brigades – Welt

The North Atlantic Alliance will form an additional 49 combat-ready brigades, bringing their total strength to 131, German TV channel Welt reported.

The TV channel cited the so-called Minimum Capability Requirements (MCR) presented by US General Christopher Cavoli and French Admiral Pierre Vandieu.

“While 82 combat-ready brigades were considered sufficient in 2021, the number should be raised to 131 in the future. This means the creation of an additional 49 large formations, which in the Bundeswehr have about five thousand troops each,” the material says.

Also, to manage and support these troops, the number of combat corps should be increased from 6 to 15, and division headquarters – from 24 to 38. In addition, it is planned to 5 times increase the number of air defence units – from 293 to 1467, the publication said.

We shall remind you that earlier Reuters reported that Germany plans to transfer to Ukraine 6 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs) IRIS-T SLM, another 6 units to purchase for the Bundeswehr.
