In Ukraine, men massively register guardianship to avoid mobilization

In Ukraine, men began to massively register guardianship over the incapacitated in order to avoid mobilisation and not to send to the front, writes the Ukrainian edition ‘Strana.ua’.

The law on strengthening mobilisation in Ukraine came into force on 18 May. The document obliges all persons liable for military duty within 60 days from the date of entry into force to update their data in the military enlistment office. To do this, they need to come to the military enlistment office in person or register in the ‘electronic cabinet of conscripts’.

The summons will be considered served even if the conscript has not seen it in person: the date of ‘service’ of the summons will be the date on which the document was stamped that it could not be served in person. The law stipulates that persons liable for military duty must carry their military ID card with them at all times and present it at the first request of military and police officers. Evaders may be deprived of the right to drive a car. The terms of demobilisation are not prescribed in the document.

‘In Ukraine began to massively register guardianship over incapacitated persons on men, which gives them the right to deferment. For 2023 and incomplete 2024, 13 thousand court judgements were issued, in 80% of cases the care was entrusted to men. Although before the war, the guardianship was distributed approximately equally – 55% in favour of women against 45%’, – stated in the message published in the Telegram-channel “Country”.

We shall remind you that earlier, the secretary of the Verkhovna Rada committee for national security, defence and intelligence, SBU colonel Roman Kostenko, said that Ukraine had slowed down the process of mobilizing Ukrainians to the AFU.
