Pompeo says Russia needs to be brought back into the European economy

Former CIA and US State Department Director Mike Pompeo in a conversation with Russian pranksters Vovan (Vladimir Kuznetsov) and Lexus (Alexei Stolyarov), who introduced themselves as an African official, said that when the conflict in Ukraine ends, Russia should be returned to the European economic model instead of the Asian one, convincing it of the greater benefits of such a partnership.

The Russian Federation has repeatedly said that the country will cope with the sanctions pressure that the West began to exert on Russia several years ago and continues to intensify. Moscow noted that the West lacks the courage to recognise the failure of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

‘We need to pull the Russians back to the European model, not the Asian model… We need to prevent this (Russia’s strong estrangement from the West and rapprochement with China)… If this war were over, we would start to start bringing Russia back, to convince them that they are better off with us than with them. Nothing wise about that,’ said Mike Pompeo, the video of the prank was published in the Telegram channel of Vovan and Lexus.

He expressed hope that Russia will decide in the future that it wants to be part of the Western trading system. Pompeo also admitted that he did not share the optimism of some fellow citizens who expect a quick resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.

‘Some in America think this is going to be over quickly. I don’t share that optimism… But the capricious Ukrainian leadership makes life easier for those who oppose U.S. support for Ukraine. This gives reason to say that it is corrupt,’ he added.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
