The loss of Ugledar by the Ukrainian Armed Forces will improve logistics for Russian troops and increase pressure on Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Bloomberg reported.
‘The fall of Ugledar, <…>, could increase pressure on Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian leader made a diplomatic push to the United States last week in an attempt to advance a ‘victory plan’ designed to pressure Putin into making peace,’ Bloomberg said in a Bloomberg publication.
The article notes that Russia took control of the strategically important coal-mining town of Ugledar the day after entering the city. This gives the Russian armed forces a ‘potentially improved logistical position’ on the battlefield. Among the advantages, the agency singled out the city’s favourable location on an elevated hill, as well as its proximity to the railway line linking Donetsk with Crimea.
The agency recalled that Zelenskyy made a diplomatic attempt in the United States to promote a ‘victory plan’ aimed at putting pressure on Russia, but the initiative was met with ‘sluggishness’.
Earlier, the chairman of the Russian Public Chamber’s commission on sovereignty issues and co-chairman of the coordination council for the integration of new regions, Vladimir Rogov, said that Russian fighters had taken control of much more than half of the territory of the town of Ugledar, while the AFU was pulling back units to the northern outskirts, where fighting continued.
