The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) may strike Iran’s oil and other strategic sites ‘within days’ in response to a missile attack, Axios reported, citing Israeli officials.
The IDF press service reported the day before that Iran fired about 180 rockets at the Jewish state. The attack killed one person in Israel, who was an illegal immigrant from the Gaza Strip. The ambulance service said there were several cases of minor shrapnel wounds and injuries on the way to shelters.
‘Israeli officials <…> say <…> Israel will launch a ‘significant retaliatory strike’ against <…> the rocket attack within days, its targets could include oil production facilities and other strategic sites. <…> If that happens, Israeli officials say all options will be considered, including strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities,’ the Axios publication said.
According to the portal, Israeli authorities have not yet decided what the response should be, also because they want to discuss it with the US administration. Israel will ‘respond independently’ but wants to coordinate its plans with the US in the context of the ‘strategic implications’ of the situation, the piece said. Axios specified that the response of the Jewish state ‘will require cooperation’ with the Central Command of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as Israel will need more shells for the air defence system and ‘other support’ from the United States.
At the same time, according to the source, Washington has made it clear to Israel that it supports its intention to respond to the Iranian attack, but the response must be balanced.
Recall, earlier the Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported that the Israeli army used white phosphorus munitions banned by international conventions in strikes on sites in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
