The main governing body of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, the Shura Council, has approved Hashem Safieddine, who is the son-in-law of former commander of Iran’s Quds Force Qassem Suleimani, as secretary general. This was reported by Al Arabiya TV channel, citing sources.

“Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath sources confirmed on Sunday that Hezbollah’s Shura Council elected Hashem Safieddine as secretary general,” the report said.

According to the TV channel, Hashem Safieddine was the chairman of Hezbollah’s Executive Council and the second person in it.

“He became the most prominent candidate to succeed Nasrallah, being the cousin and son-in-law of the former commander of the Iranian Quds Force Qassem Suleimani,” – summarised Al Arabiya.
