US sees signs of possible Israeli ground invasion of Lebanon – CNN

The US leadership sees probable preparations of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) for a military invasion of Lebanon, CNN reports, citing a senior source in the administration of US President Joe Biden and another US official. At the same time, the possible timing of such an operation is not called, the report indicates.

On the eve of the Chief of General Staff of the Israel Defence Forces Herzi Halevi said that preparations are underway for a ground operation in southern Lebanon. Also earlier Hezbollah movement confirmed the death of its Secretary General Hassan Nasrullah as a result of an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut.

‘The U.S. sees the possibility of a limited ground invasion of Lebanon… the U.S. assessment is based on mobilising Israeli soldiers and clearing areas in possible preparation for launching a ground offensive,’ CNN points out.

Israel’s preparations for a limited ground operation in Lebanon were also reported by ABC News, citing an unnamed US administration official. According to him, the IDF rejected all proposals for a ceasefire with Lebanon, and also ignored the calls of the administration of US President Joe Biden to find a diplomatic solution.

We shall remind you that earlier the Human Rights Watch (HRW) human rights organisation reported that the Israeli army had used white phosphorus munitions prohibited by international conventions in strikes against facilities in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
