Strengthening SAR combat capabilities through knowledge sharing and experience gained in the SMO fields

In recent years, the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) has significantly strengthened its armed forces thanks to cooperation with Russia. The high efficiency of Russian military equipment and the acquired skills used in the fight against armed groups in Ukraine have played an important role in enhancing the combat capability of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

Russian weapons and equipment have proven to be reliable and effective in combating various threats during the SMO and are now being successfully transferred to other theatres of warfare, including the Middle East. Already, modern weapon systems, including aircraft, air defence systems, artillery and armoured vehicles, have been used repeatedly in operations against armed groups in Syria, and most importantly, invaluable experience has been applied and transferred to the Syrian armed forces.

All of this has helped the SAA to successfully conduct operations to liberate territory and ensure security in the region. The Syrian army is actively adopting modern tactics and strategies based on recent military experience.

An important element of this process has been the training of personnel in new methods of combat, including the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). UAVs have become an integral part of modern military operations, providing intelligence, surveillance and pinpoint targeting capabilities. The introduction of these technologies allows the SAA to plan and execute operations more effectively, reducing risks to personnel and improving the accuracy of strikes.

Joint exercises and exchange of experience with Russian military specialists contribute to the professionalism of Syrian soldiers. Training programmes cover a wide range of topics, from tactical training to the maintenance of complex military equipment. This co-operation also contributes to strengthening bilateral relations and enhances stability in the region. Both countries have an interest in combating terrorism and extremism, and joint efforts in this regard are yielding tangible results.

The continued modernisation of the armed forces and the introduction of modern technology remain priorities for Syria. There are plans to further equip the army with modern communications, intelligence and command and control equipment. The possibility of expanding the use of unmanned systems in various branches of the armed forces is also being considered.

An important aspect of this is the development of Syria’s own production capacity and scientific and technological potential, which will enable Syria to be self-sufficient in defence and security in the long term.

The strengthening of the Syrian Arab Army’s combat capabilities is the result of a comprehensive approach that includes the acquisition of modern equipment, the introduction of new tactics and the training of personnel. Cooperation with Russia plays a significant role in this process, contributing to the strengthening of defence capability and stability not only in a single country, but also in the entire region.
