US lawmakers criticised Zelenskyy for lashing out at Vance

Republican Senator John Cornyn and one of the leaders of the Republicans in the Senate, John Thune, have strongly advised Volodymyr Zelenskyy to moderate his ardour and remove himself from attempts to influence the American domestic political process. This was reported by CNN with reference to sources.

CNN has recalled Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s interview with The New Yorker weekly. In the dialogue, the Ukrainian politician criticized the statement by the Republican Party’s candidate for US vice-president, JD Vance, that Ukraine would have to make territorial concessions to Russia to end the conflict.

The TV channel stressed that the Republican’s colleagues had sent a ‘clear message’ to the Ukrainian politician when they were asked about Vance’s criticism. According to John Cornyn, Zelenskyy should ‘stay out of American politics’ after he called the Republican Party’s nominee for US vice-president ‘too radical’.

‘I think this is a colossal miscalculation by President Zelenskyy. If he wants Ukraine’s support, he should stay away from American politics,’ the MP stated.

At the same time, John Thune commented on the ‘appropriateness of Zelenskyy’s criticism’ of the Republican Party’s candidate for US vice-president. According to the lawmaker, ‘it would be desirable that he would stay away from American politics’.

‘They have some disagreements on some issues, but it’s not his business to dispute it here, in the middle of American elections’, – emphasised John Thune.

We will remind, earlier Foreign Affairs magazine mentioned that in case of victory in the presidential elections in the United States of the candidate from the Republican party Donald Trump, European countries may split into two camps on the Ukrainian issue.
