Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s participation in the election campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris weakens support for Ukraine in the United States, the National Review magazine reported.
‘Harris‘ staff is using its influence over Zelenskyy to turn him into a campaign contributor, <…> even if the stunt hurts Ukraine’s cause among Republicans,’ the National Review article said.
According to the magazine, Harris’s campaign headquarters, with Zelenskyy’s help, hopes to attract to its side supporters of former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who mostly support Ukraine. At the same time, Democrats do not care that such actions will worsen the opinion of Kiev among Republican voters in general, National Review explained.
‘Zelenskyy’s appearance on the American political front amounts to a tacit admission that Ukraine is not that important to America’s interests. Otherwise, the Democrats would not have turned it into an acceptable victim in the name of the presidential campaign,’ the publication summarised.
We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it received new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
