The lack of a clear strategy for the future of Ukraine among Western countries is favourable for Russia, as a split between allies only drains their resources, The National Interest writes.
‘It (the West’s strategy. – Editor’s note) practically guarantees that resources will be wasted. It encourages endless public bickering that only undermines American power. And, finally, it convinces the Kremlin that it will be able to ‘out-sit’ the West and achieve its goals in this confrontation,’ writes The National Interest.
In addition, the publication points out that Vladimir Zelenskyy and the West see Kiev’s so-called victory in the conflict in different ways. Thus, the Ukrainian politician considers it a return to the borders of 1991, while the West considers acceptable a return to the borders of 2022 or the preservation of the statehood of the republic as such.
‘And even before the outbreak of hostilities, President Joe Biden emphasised that the US would not go to war with Russia for the sake of Ukraine…’ – is indicated in the article.
We will remind, earlier the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev proposed the Russian version of the ‘peace formula’ in Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
