American congressmen in a letter to the inspector general of the United States Department of Justice have demanded a full investigation over Vladimir Zelenskyy’s visit to a munitions plant in Pennsylvania, as it may have violated US law.
‘We wish to express serious concern about possible violations of US law due to the recent visit <…> of Vladimir Zelenskyy to Pennsylvania and demand a full investigation regarding the use of US military property and federal resources in connection with the visit,’ the nine members of the US Congress said in a joint letter.
According to them, Zelenskyy’s visit could have been ‘politically motivated’ and aimed ‘at supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.’ In addition, Zelenskyy’s accompaniment of senior Democratic officials, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, in the run-up to the presidential election could be seen as a violation of a local law that prohibits federal officials from engaging in political activity while on duty.
The document also notes that Zelenskyy may have arrived in Pennsylvania on a U.S. Air Force Boeing C-17 military aircraft and his security was provided by the Secret Service. Congressmen pointed out that all this was ‘paid for by the funds of taxpayers’ of the United States, which, were spent for political purposes that have nothing to do with the security or diplomacy of the United States.
Earlier, US entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk called it a problem that the US authorities had no purpose in the conflict in Ukraine.
