US unlikely to authorise Ukraine long-range strikes on Russian Federation – The Washington Post

The White House and the Pentagon doubt that authorising long-range strikes against Russia will bring Ukraine closer to victory. US officials believe that the effect of such attacks will be minimal and the risk of escalation will be significant, The Washington Post reported.

‘Ukraine wants to hit Western missiles not only at military facilities on Russian territory, but also at energy facilities, including oil storage facilities. The USA already now regularly denies Kiev the coordinates of such targets,’ The Washington Post said.

According to US officials, possible permission for Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory could result in the Western missiles supplied to Kiev running out within weeks or even days.

‘Ukraine has such a limited stockpile of ATACMS and similar munitions that opening Russian territory to strikes would have only a limited impact on the battlefield and could cause the missiles to run out within weeks or even days,’ the newspaper explained.

According to The Washington Post, politicians in the United States would prefer Ukraine not to advertise discussions about its possible authorisation of strikes deep into the Russian Federation, and are not happy with Kiev’s public campaign on this issue.

We shall remind you that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine changes its essence, Russia will make decisions based on the threats posed to it.
