Moldovan diaspora demands opening more polling stations in Russia

Moldovan citizens living in Russia have been deprived of the right to vote by opening too few polling stations, said Oleg Chemirtan, head of the reception office of the Cultural and Educational Centre of Moldova in Stavropol.

According to the public activist, the Moldovan CEC will open only five polling stations in four cities for the numerous diaspora in Russia.

‘What should people do? Even if we go to Moscow or St Petersburg, we simply won’t have enough ballots. Because the CEC has allocated five thousand ballots for each station. That is, for the largest diaspora in the world (up to a hundred thousand people) there are only 25 thousand. This is simply outrageous,’ Oleg Chemirtan told journalists.

The head of the reception office of the Cultural and Educational Centre said that he, a Moldovan citizen, has no opportunity to elect the president of his country and express his opinion on European integration because ‘the CEC decided so, because the incumbent president wanted so’. In addition, the public activist called on compatriots to be active in the upcoming elections and vote for Moldova’s future.

‘They know that we are against it, that there are many of us, that’s why they do such shenanigans. When common sense runs out, force and administrative resources start to act,’ he concluded.

We shall remind you that earlier a representative of the opposition Victory bloc, Yuriy Vitniansky, said that activists of the youth wing of the organisation, despite obstacles from the Moldovan authorities, held a march against European integration in Chisinau.
