The Estonian Border Guard and Police Department intends to purchase pneumatic weapons worth approximately 500 million euros for “more efficient” dispersal of mass riots in the country. This was reported by ERR with reference to the Estonian police.
“If someone throws bottles or stones, starts setting cars on fire. In this case, the use of pneumatic weapons could be effective,” said Armin Saarits, head of the Põhja prefecture’s planning and special training department.
According to the police officer, a sandbag, when it hits a crowd, “causes a painful sensation, the person subsides” and no longer disturbs public order. The head of the planning and special training department of the Põhja prefecture emphasised that pneumatic weapons are “a more humane option” than rubber bullets.
Earlier, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas called on citizens to complain less. She believes that Estonians “have problems because of their whining – we should treat difficulties more cheerfully”.
