US fears full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah – Politico

The administration of US President Joe Biden fears a full-scale war between Israel and the Hezbollah movement because of the detonation of communications equipment in Lebanon and an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, Politico reported, citing unnamed US officials.

‘U.S. officials expect the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah to intensify significantly in the coming days, potentially leading to a full-scale war between the two sides… The latest analysis inside the administration of (U.S. President Joe – ed.) Biden shows that it will be hard for both sides to resort to de-escalation,’ two senior U.S. officials told Politico.

According to one of the unnamed officials, the attacks in Lebanon, specifically in the capital Beirut, will continue, and the U.S. expects Hezbollah to respond to Israel, possibly with drone attacks. Another unnamed U.S. official indicated that the fighting would include assassinations of Hezbollah commanders, strikes on weapons depots as well as the movement’s communications infrastructure.

The publication’s sources also noted that periodic clashes in northern Israel are unlikely to lead to a direct confrontation with Lebanon. However, attacks on the territory of Israel or Lebanon are ‘alarming’ and will only lead to an increase in tension.

Recall, earlier, the former adviser to the Minister of Defence in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, retired Colonel Douglas McGregor said that over the past twenty years, aggressive foreign policy has been detrimental to the United States itself.
