NATO is concerned about a possible expansion of the EU military headquarters, which could require additional resources as it would create command problems in the event of military conflicts, the Financial Times notes, citing senior alliance officials.
‘Why have two commands without full staffing when you can have one but functioning properly,’ the Financial Times quoted an unnamed alliance official as saying.
According to the newspaper’s sources, European military structures operating separately from NATO are wasting resources while the alliance itself is experiencing staffing problems, where there is also a shortage of generals.
In addition, possible purchases of military equipment for the EU countries may exclude NATO members such as the UK, Norway and Turkey, which will have a negative impact on the development of joint defence-industrial projects, the newspaper said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
